About us

Hi! My name is Celine. I am a Catholic wife and mother of 4 children. I am very conscious about the health of my family, and years ago I stopped bringing scented candles into my home. Scented candles can have very negative effects on our health. Studies show that paraffin wax releases phthalates which are endocrine disrupting chemicals that increase risk of cancer. Soy candles are advertised as being the healthier option, but even soy candles release all sorts of carcinogens into the air while burning. What’s even worse, are the fragrances that are added to these candles. The word “fragrance” is a blanket term that can conceal hundreds of toxins and chemicals. I decided I didn’t want to risk the health of my family, so I switched completely over to beeswax!

Beeswax candles have a natural honey scent that is subtle, but beautiful. Not only do they smell amazing, but they actually have health benefits! Beeswax candles release negative ions into the air while burning. These negative ions clean the air we breathe by eliminating dust, mold, odors, and other pollutants in the air. Negative ions boost levels of serotonin, the “feel good” hormone. So, burning a beeswax candle can help alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost energy!

Before I started making my own candles, I used to purchase beeswax candles online. I was always worried about the quality and authenticity of the candles. Companies are legally allowed to label a candle as beeswax as long as it contains 51% beeswax. That means that it can still contain up to 49% of other waxes, such as paraffin or soy, and they can include other additives! I remember one time ordering some candles and they had such a strong smell, I could tell they had an artificial honey scent added to them. After this I decided to learn how to make them myself. We purchase our beeswax from local beekeepers, so we can guarantee our customers the best quality candles. We only use clean, lightly filtered, 100% pure beeswax.

Beeswax is symbolic in the Catholic Church. It represents the purity of Christ. We always have a blessed candle burning while we pray our family rosary. Blessed candles are a remarkable sacramental, they are regarded as one of the chief sacramentals in the life of the faithful. When the priest blesses the candles, he says “Empowered by the seal of Thy holy cross, let the spirits of darkness depart trembling and fly in fear from all places where their light shines, and never more disturb nor molest those who serve Thee”.

We named our business Valentine’s Beeswax Candles after St Valentine, who is the patron saint of bees and beekeepers. We also have a 3-year-old son named after St Valentine, Valentine Joseph! Our children love to be a part of the candle making process, helping us to pull out the fully cooled candles from the molds. We enjoy it and the whole family participates in it. We hope our candles bring you lots of joy, light and graces!
